Call me Uncle Hubman

Well, not quite yet…

But it can’t happen soon enough for my sister!

It feels like we’ve been in any-day-now mode for about 2 weeks.  On Jan 5th she had an appointment with her OB and there was talk of possibly inducing her.  Then she was told that he’d see her in the office this past Tuesday morning and if there was any signs that labor had begun, he’d help it along and induce her then.  Tuesday came and went and no induction, only instructions to return first thing Thursday morning.  Back they go, still no sign that labor had started, and the doc decides to take a wait and see approach.

Talking to my mom yesterday, I had forgotten just what my sister’s actual due date was, and mom reminded me that it was yesterday.  So all this talk of inducing my sister was before her due date!  To be fair to her, she has Crohn’s disease and was told very early on in the pregnancy that it was likely that she wouldn’t go full term, setting her expectations for an early delivery.

Evidently, the doc’s thinking was that between the Crohn’s disease and the size of the baby [estimated at 9+lbs the other day, according to my mom], they may not want to be patient and wait for nature to take it’s course.  But now he’s changed his mind, since the baby is doing just fine, there is plenty of amniotic fluid, and my sister is doing fine as well.

In the midst of all this, my mom drove from Pittsburgh to NY last Saturday to be with my sister.  [You know, because my brother-in-law isn't capable of helping his wife!  Okay, I'm picking on my mom, she just wants to be with her daughter when she has her first and likely only child.]  My step-dad, who is 86 yrs old and not in particularly good health, was missing his wife, so after 5 days in NY, my mom drove back to Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon.  I wonder how long she’ll be home before my sister goes into labor!

Me? I’m just sitting back, relaxing, and waiting for the phone call that she’s finally gone into labor.

Just like I did when Veronica went into labor at 3am with Darling Boy.  The doc told her to stay home for a bit longer and come into the hospital at 7am or when contractions were 8-10 minutes apart, whichever came first.

What did I do?  I went back to sleep.

Which earned me a smack in the head and a “WAKE UP!!!” from Veronica!

I was driving to the gym on Thursday evening and caught a glimpse of the setting sun through the trees.  I thought about finding a place to get an unobstructed view for a better shot, but figured that by the time I did, the sun might be gone.

Even though I didn’t get the shot I wanted, this was definitely one of those times that I’m glad I’ve gotten into the habit of taking my camera with me wherever I go.

As a tease for future Project365 posts, I’m going to start randomly adding click-thru pictures.  You never know what you might find if you click on a picture ;-)
