The only way to get a good exposure on this image was to go with a slower shutter speed, but since I didn’t have my tripod with me, it came out a little blurry.  Oh well, I still like the picture,especially how some stars that weren’t visible to the naked eye appeared in the image.

    I am sure you did, but to maximize the shutter speed, make sure you are using all the ISO you got. The increased noise wouldn’t be notice in a web posted picture… ;-)

    What I find useful for photos like this (low light, slow shutter speed, conspicuously absent tripod) is to just put my camera on the ground. Or on some sort of ledge. If you can swing it (because, yeah, sometimes just dumping your camera on the ground won’t get you exactly what you’re looking for), it eliminates the blur problem. ;)
