You know, it just isn’t for me.

I’ve thought about it, even written a few posts and shared some political cartoons.  But at the end of the day, I just have trouble working up the energy to write about politics.  I think there are two reasons why.

There was once a time when running for public office was seen as something honorable, a chance to serve one’s city/county/state/country.  But now, ideological differences notwithstanding, except maybe on the local level I don’t think there is a politician out there who truly has their constituents best interests in mind.  They all work for special interests and only care about donations and re-election, often using fear and/or negative campaign tactics.  I have trouble defending both sides of the political/ideological spectrum.

Also, I’ve wavered in my political leanings over the years, but generally identify as a moderate.  On some issues, I’m strongly liberal especially on some social issues, but on fiscal and other matters I’m fairly conservative.  While I certainly have my convictions, on many issues I can understand and appreciate both sides of an argument.  For many issues, it’s all about perspective, and I try to remember that not everyone shares the same perspective as me, and that doesn’t make either of us a bad person.

So if you’re interested in (hopefully) interesting pictures for my Project365, random posts about our fun and games as swingers, half-nekkid pictures of us and the occasional serious post, please hang around, I’d appreciate it.

But if you’re looking for politics, this is as close as I’ll get….

Honey, I like hearing about your politics even if we don’t always agree. Just keep this quote by John Kenneth Galbraith in mind:

Faced with the choice between changing one’s mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.

Yah, stay away from politics, Hub. I’m sick of it, it’s disgusting and depressing.

ASM- that’s a good quote my dear, thanks for sharing it.

Wolfman- that’s my plan! Thanks for commenting.

I only talk politics if I can have a discussion with people who have an open mind. Because people can disagree but when they start getting personal, it is no longer a discussion.

And you know what? It’s your blog. Discuss whatever you want. It’s your house. If people can’t be civil whatever the topic, just like you’d toss their ass out of your house – toss their comments off your blog. At least, this is my attitude. :)

And I do like that click thru….sigh…. ;-)

I think there is massive disillusionment with politics all over the shop really. Across the pond we’re in this horrible stage of what my history teacher called ‘consensus politics’, everyone’s basically got the same policies, you’re voting for a person. And when it comes to that it becomes nasty. None of the main parties are worth voting for, IMO. So fighting about it becomes a little silly. I have a friend who is big into politics and having discussions with him is always interesting because although I’ll never get him to agree with me (he’s borderline communist!) it’s always enlightening. The problem with the Internet is people have no boundaries so they’ll just insult you and say whatever they like. I usually feel that I don’t know enough about an issue to post about it, and I think that’s often the case around here as well!

I’m with Emmy. If people can disagree respectfully, I will engage. Otherwise, it’s not worth the name-calling and ridiculousness.
