Several bloggers have remarked recently on the apparent lack of comments on blog posts, which I’ve noticed as well. Those of you who are also bloggers and have noticed this trend, as yourself this: Am I commenting as much?
Remember when you first started your blog? How did you get people to come to your blog and to comment? You started by commenting on others peoples blogs, which brought people to your blog, right? Why would it be any different now?
You know what I’ve noticed about some of the people who have talked about the lack of comments on their blogs? It doesn’t seem like they’re putting in much effort to comment on other peoples blogs. Now some people, perhaps their blog content is so irresistible that even if they never comment elsewhere, people will still come visit their site. But that’s for damn sure not me!
I wonder if some people have started to take comments for granted.
I think I have. At the same time, there are bloggers who are great about replying to comments, either by commenting back to what I had to say or with an e-mail back to me. I have to be honest, knowing that they have read my comment and have taken the time to respond motivates me to comment again on future posts. But if I consistently comment on your blog and you never respond to me or anyone else, why would I keep commenting? I see comments as an opportunity to start a conversation and knowing that the other person is listening motivates me to comment again.
Before I started this post, I went back and replied to everyone who commented on my last 3 or 4 posts. From now on, I’m going to make it a habit to reply to everyone who leaves a comment.
Which is what I should have been doing all along. Not because I’m a comment whore (which I just might be!) but because that’s the courteous thing to do.

Long time readers might recall that I have a sneaky habit of occasionally adding a click-thru treat to an otherwise vanilla post, such as one of my Project365 posts. It appears that only one reader, at least based on the comments, discovered the one I inserted in the last week. Most times if you click on a picture you’ll just see the full sized version of it, but you never know, there might be an outtake of Veronica or I!
Not only would I stare, I’d probably never leave the house!

While you're here, why don't you subscribe to the RSS feed and follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!
