Shuffle Play

13messages and AshlyStar both did this recently and I thought I’d try as well.  Setting my iPod to shuffle play, lets see what the first 25 songs are.  I’m predicting more Metallica than any other artist…

1. Godsmack- Keep Away, from Godsmack
2. REM- Hairshirt, from Green
3. Judas Priest- Living After Midnight, from Metal Works ’73-’93
4. Aerosmith- Young Lust, from Pump
5. Spiderbait- Fucken Awesome, from Tonight Alright
One anecdote about this album- I bought it based on the recommendation of Stephen King in one of his columns in Entertainment Weekly.  I’m paraphrasing, but he basically said “If Clay Aiken tried to sing like this, his head would explode”- that’s enough of an endorsement for me! They also do a great cover of Black Betty on this album.
6. Disturbed- The Game, from The Sickness
7. The Vaughn Bros- Long Way from Home, from Family Style (and their only album, before Stevie Ray died in an accident)
8. The Offspring- Why Don’t You Get a Job, from Americana
9. Elton John- Your Song, from Live in Australia
10. Metallica- Master of Puppets, from Master of Puppets
11. REM- Radio Free Europe, from Eponymous
12. Billy Joel- The Stranger, from Greatest Hits Vols 1 & 2
13. Nickelback- S.E.X., from Dark Horse
14. Megadeth- A Tout Le Monde, from Capital Punishment
15. Metallica- Of Wolf and Man, from the so-called “Black Album”
16. Eurythmics- Sweet Dreams, from Pure 80′s (a compilation disc)
17. Buckcherry- Crazy Bitch, from 15
18. Van Halen- Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love, from Right Here, Right Now (2 CD live album)
19. Elton John- Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, from Live in Australia
20. REM- Romance, from Eponymous
21. Metallica- Turn the Page, from Garage Inc
22. Faith No More- From Out of Nowhere, from The Real Thing
23. The Cult- Edie (Ciao Baby), from Pure Cult: The Singles
24. Rush- What You’re Doing (live version), from Chronicles
25. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Subway to Venus, from Mother’s Milk

No surprise that Metallica made 3 appearances on this list (I have every one of their albums on my iPod), but Elton John twice and REM 3 times surprised me.  I only have that one Elton John album on my phone and I don’t listen to REM all that often, don’t know why, they’re a great band.  Neil Young, one of my all-time favorites, didn’t show up at all.  That’s what you get from random play!

I have several dozen more albums that I could transfer to my iTunes library, but my iPhone is almost at capacity (should have gotten the 16 GB model!) and I don’t feel like manually syncing songs between the computer and phone.

Anyone else gonna give this idea a try?  If you do, please leave a comment and let me know, I love discovering new music!

I think I will do this tomorrow. However I am pretty positive that we will not have one matching song.

Matching song? I agree, probably not, but I know that we have a few artists in common in our respective collections, you never know what shuffle play will result in!

Great list. Your shuffle is more representative of what I listen to than my shuffle was. :)

Cool list. I wish I had Metallica in my collection (always like them) but there’s a dearth of Metal in my collection. I’m actaully pretty lazy about ripping our CDs. Vince, on the otherhand, has pretty much every disc we have on his and it’s pretty darn cool. In fact, he refuses to plug mine in when we take long trips usually adding something like “But honey, you KNOW my mix is better, right?”

Put mine up. Go take a gander.

I stole this from Ashley as well. We don’t have a single matching song. But I do have a Billy Joel song on mine. lol.

Wow, I enjoy the majority of your list. Funny thing my worst band of all time is on your list….I absolutely hate RUSH. When I hear them I’m like “oh how I f’in hate RUSH”. I figure it’s because I grew up in metro Detroit and they were so overplayed. Overall, excellent taste in music!

Great list! Okay, any list with Nickelback on it is great to me, but your list is definitely great!

Give “Saving Abel” and “Three Days Grace” a listen.

Oh man, I think I LOVE your taste in music. There’s only 2 songs on here that I don’t know and like. :D Glad you did this one! It’s always fun to see these kinds of things.

I’m gonna give this a whirl tomorrow – once my iPod recharges. It’s been in mothballs for too long (meaning someone hasn’t dragged her ass to the gym). Though I highly doubt there’ll be any overlap – though I do have some Metallica and REM on my iPod. :)

I played along. :-) Neither REM or Metallica came up, but both are on the iPod.

Oh, and I think I have that Faith No More, and some Rush, but not THAT Rush.

What popped up is mostly way stranger tho.
