When the people at Fascinations let me know that they had a Tantus ProTouch they were looking for a guy to review, I was happy to accept the assignment.  After all, before I ever started reviewing sex toys I had bought myself a prostate toy and then got another when the first left me a little disappointed.  As usual, the toy shipped out fast and was in my hot little hands within a matter of days.

About the ProTouch- it’s made of premium silicone, so it’s compatible with any water-based lube.  The insert-able length is about 4.5″, it’s 5/8″ wide at the tip and 1 1/4″ at the widest point.  It comes with a removable vibe that inserts into the base and is powered by 3 watch batteries.  The silicone material is hypoallergenic and can be cleaned by boiling, bleaching (10% solution) and is dishwasher safe.

Pros- the size is just right, at least for me.  It’s not too long or wide to be intimidating, but I definitely knew it was there.  The material is a nice combination of firm yet flexible and is very slick when lube is applied. The vibrations are strong but not too strong and when turned on at the right time really helped send me over the edge.

When I started looking at prostate toys, I was curious to see what prostate stimulation was all about, since I heard that it could intensity an orgasm, and who wouldn’t like that?!  By the criteria, did I like the ProTouch?  Absolutely!  Between the size, shape, and strength of the vibrations, I’m getting a good idea what prostate stimulation can feel like, thankyouverymuch.

Cons- it wouldn’t stay in place.  I’d push it in all the way, let go, reach around for my cock, and it would slip out.  Push it back in, it slips out, again and again.  I wondered that if the neck was a little narrower, more like a butt plug, would it stay in better.  So I reached in the drawer for our glass plug and tested that theory.  Lo and behold, it stayed in just fine.  I will say, if a partner was using this on me, having to hold it in wouldn’t be my problem and could be quite a bit more pleasurable.  Are you paying attention Veronica? It can also be used as a g-spot stimulator, you could try it too ;-)

One other minor complaint- I can’t get the damn bullet vibe back out!  Maybe it’s my lack of experience with silicone toys, but they really should include in the packaging some sort of warning to apply a little lube to the bullet before inserting it.

Thanks again to Fascinations for sending me the Tantus ProTouch prostate stimulator.  Check out their website for all of your sex toy needs, they have quite a collection!

Sunday afternoon I was chatting with Mina and Aurore on Twitter and we were talking about reviews we each had to do.  I mentioned this one I had to write and the need to “test” the toy out again.  Mina was so turned on by the idea that she wrote some erotica focusing on anally pleasuring a man.  You can read it here if you’re interested, it’s pretty hot!

Not the most original topic, I posted a sun and clouds picture just 4 days ago, but there are seemingly endless possibilities when photographing Mother Nature.  And just like the other day, timing is everything, moments later the cloud moved and the shot disappeared…

With the end of summer upon us and thoughts turning to the beginning of another school year, I wonder how many people think of a college education in investment terms. Probably not as many who should.

Think about these numbers: between Veronica and I, we have 5 degrees, BA and MA for her, BS, MS, and Ph.D. for me.  I had 1 student loan for less than $5000 and Veronica had about $15,000 in loans for our undergraduate degrees.  Our graduate degrees?  Not a single penny in loans.  My Ph.D. cost me no more than whatever I laid out for textbooks and parking permits, probably less than $1000 over the course of 4 years.  The return on that investment?  I’m making about $40,000/year MORE than the job offer I turned down when I decided to go back to school.

Now consider my dad’s girlfriend’s granddaughter (got that?), she’s the one who spent the past year studying abroad in Italy and got my dad and his gf to come visit her.  She just started her 3rd year at a college that costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000 per year.  And guess what? She still hasn’t declared a major!

$80,000 invested so far, without a fuckin’ clue how she’s going to utilize that investment!  And don’t get me started on her parents idiocy, blindly assuming debt in the form of student loans so their daughter can do what exactly?

But I’ll cut her a little slack, a lot of people start their undergraduate education without knowing just what they want to study.  Look at me, I started out as a physical education major and now I’m a biomedical researcher!  What really bugs me are the people who complete their undergraduate education then continue on to graduate school for what are frankly pretty dumb reasons- “I’m interested in such and such”, “Well, since I can’t get a good job with my degree”, “I think it would be cool to study such-and-such”.  Intellectual curiosity and a love of academia are fine and dandy, but considering what school costs, those alone aren’t enough.

How about these reasons?
- You’re on a career trajectory that is going to plateau if you don’t continue your education and you’re pursuing a concrete career goal
- There’s actually a market for the skillset/knowledge that you’re pursuing.  For example, while Harvard is a fine institution of higher education, I’m skeptical that the price tag for a graduate degree in Germanic Languages and Literature is really worth it, unless you’re independently wealthy.
- State licensing mandates a graduate degree (teachers, some therapists, social workers, etc)

When I was pursing my doctorate, I worked in a lab with 3 other students, 2 of whom started the program right after completing their undergraduate degrees and 1 who like me who worked for several years before returning to school (that would be my former office wife Lisa, you remember meeting her, right Emmy?).  Three years after we all graduated, I’m thrilled with how my career is progressing (regardless of 10 weeks away from home!) and Lisa’s grant-writing and publishing record thus far is quite enviable.  Professionally-speaking, our careers are exactly where she and I wanted them to be at this point.

The other two, the two that started the program immediately after completing their undergraduate degrees, aren’t doing as well.  C is on her 2nd post-doc, barely earning a decent wage and floundering along without direction, not sure what she wants to do.  Not a good situation to be in, 4 yrs after earning a Ph.D.  And L has a decent job working for a major sports drink manufacturer in their R&D group, but it’s not what she really wanted, it’s more where she ended up due to our advisers influence, not her desire.

I could cite other examples, but you get the idea.  Work for a few years, find your passion, and THEN figure out if graduate school is what NEED, not just WANT.  Otherwise you could be saddling yourself with a financial burden that will take years to get out from under.

You disagree with me?  That’s what comments are for, lets hear it!

Day 242- T Rex

 Tagged with:

This apparently life-sized T Rex is outside The Witte Museum here in San Antonio, as an advertisement for a limited-time-only exhibit called Dinosaurs Unearthed.  It’s head and forelimbs move and it growls menacingly every few minutes- the kids I saw around loved it!

Recently I was musing that perhaps being totally honest with my AFF profile may not have been the best tactic when it came to finding a FWB while I’m here in San Antonio.  You have to admit, coming across a profile that basically says “no really, my wife knows and approves of my finding a lover while I’m gone!” is not very believable for most people.  Sounds like some line of BS, right?

Except I’m an extremely lucky man, as any long-time readers would know, and it’s the truth!

Earlier this week I received an e-mail from a woman who liked my profile and contacted me.  To make a long story short, we exchanged a few pictures (face and fully-clothed body pictures only), chatted online some, and decided that we would like to meet in person.

During the course of our date on Friday, we were comparing notes on our relative success with AFF and I teased her that she cost me another months membership, that I was all set to give up and delete my profile until I saw her message.  There’s less than 3 weeks until I hit the road for home and really, I was perfectly happy with giving up.  I told her that since she contacted me, I guess I should keep my membership going and see what happens.

Best decision I made all week!

Sorry, got off track there…

I asked her, what was it about my profile that lead you to contact me?  As anyone who has been on a sex/dating site can attest, there are many more men than woman, so why me?

My honesty!  She thought my profile was sincere and genuine and since she and her ex had a similar arrangement, she knew from her own experience how it can work.

We had a very nice time together.

I got home quite late.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be seeing her again before I leave.

And most of all, I’m happy that I was true to who I am and didn’t mislead someone in order to get laid.

Saturday afternoon I visited Brackenridge Park in San Antonio- I’ve passed the park many times but have never checked it out before.  I found a nice shady spot to sit by a creek and waited for inspiration to strike, fortunately there was no shortage of photo opportunities!

I like how I caught the ripples radiating out from when the duck dipped his (her?) head underwater for food.

I spied this one (a crane? damned if I know…) sitting here and figured that with it’s big wingspan that it would look pretty cool in flight.
So I waited.  And waited.  And waited…

While I was waiting for the crane or whatever it was, this pigeon landed nearby and I managed to get a decent shot of it flying away. Of course, with my bad luck I looked back at where the crane was and the fucker flew away while I was taking pictures of a pigeon :-/

I don’t have a clue what kind of bird this was, but I like the motion blur look I ended up with!

Pleasurists adult product review round-up

I suppose that technically I did not take a picture yesterday, since this picture reflects the time I returned to my room after my date last night :-)

Proof positive that it pays to always have your camera nearby if you’re a photographer- moments after I got this picture the clouds moved, the sun was completely obscured, and the shot was gone….

Laying in bed, the morning light streams in between the blinds,
the suns rays warm my skin, in contrast to the cool blanket I’m laying on,
after spending the previous 2 days with Veronica, at that moment I couldn’t have been happier…

Veronica is also featuring a photo from this morning, no going to the archives this week!

Happy HNT!
