On Friday morning I moved out the hotel that’s located 6 miles away from where I go for “work” while I’m here. I’m now in the lodging that is literally across the street from “work”, a 5 minute walk instead of a 12-15 minute drive. I also have more living space, a kitchenette, a reliable LAN to connect to, and no crickets!
Perhaps the best of all, which I had totally forgotten about from the last time I was here 3 yrs ago, is the camaraderie that comes with living in the same building as the rest of my classmates. Friday evening word spread that a bunch of people would be heading out for dinner, so I joined the fun. All together, there were 15 of us going out for dinner, 6 others from my class group and the rest from one of the other groups, so it was a nice mix of familiar faces and new friends. We spend 2+ hrs a really nice restaurant, laughing, sharing stories and generally relaxing and enjoy the night.
After dinner some of us were interested in going downtown, maybe to the Riverwalk, which is where I thought we were headed, until we started driving. It seems that a few people in our group were strip club virgins and some of the guys (and girls) were determined to correct that!
At the end of the night, it wasn’t the jokes that were told, the memories that were created or the embarrassing moments we have to tease each other about in the coming weeks. And it wasn’t watching one hot girl get a very up close and personal dance from a stripper, getting a few dollar dances myself, or the tequila shots one of my friends bought for us.
At the end of the night, it was a good time spent with new friends. Honestly, the location and activities are inconsequential, I’m here with a very good group of people that I enjoy spending time with.
What more can we ask of our friends?
