Scheme

My phone rang Wednesday night while I was relaxing in my hotel room, it was the guy I was scheduled to work with all day Thursday and Friday- “Hey sorry for the short notice but I have to travel on Friday, we’re only going to be able to meet tomorrow”

I’d been away since Monday morning, the prospect of returning home a day early did not disappoint me.

A quick phone call to the travel agency’s after-hours number and I had a seat on a flight home Thursday evening. Now, do I tell Veronica or do I surprise her and the kids? I think a surprise would be fun!

Then, inspiration strikes.

Friday morning I could skip out from work and see Katie! I know she’s working the afternoon shift at the hospital, once her daughter is off to school she could be all mine for a few hours.

“Wanna get together on Friday? Looks like I may be flying home tomorrow night”

“Oh that would be wonderful. I need to get fucked by you!”

I guess that was a yes! Now for the challenging part, not saying anything to Veronica or leaving hints on Twitter that might lead her to suspect that I was coming home sooner than planned. I stick to the plan all day, then realize that maybe it’s not such a good idea to surprise Veronica by unexpectedly walking in the door at 9:30pm. For all I know she’ll think I’m an intruder and launch something at me before she realizes it’s me.

My flight lands and I take a picture out the window as we’re taxiing to the terminal at Logan Airport. I text the picture to Veronica with one word- “surprise”

“Where are you, is that an airport”

“Yes it is, I just landed at Logan”

“Yay!”

An hour later and I’m home and chatting with her in the living room, when I reveal that I had been planning the surprise since the night before.

Except I don’t tell her about the plans to see Katie.

“So are you going to work tomorrow?”

“No, I’m thinking about staying home, at least in the morning”

“Oh yeah? What time is Katie coming over?”

Damn, Veronica knows me all too well
