Hugs and Kisses

You ever have one of those days when you just can’t get enough hugs and kisses from your kids?

I saw a 3 year old boy, he knows his daddy isn’t around but it hasn’t registered why

I saw a 7 year old girl, distraught and crying for her daddy

And there was their mom, a widow at all of 27 years old, wondering if her husbands service and sacrifice was worth it

I hope it’s understandable why I’m in a bit of a melancholy mood tonight. Fortunately a generous helping of hugs and kisses from my kids has helped.

    Completely understandable. The ultimate sacrifice while done by the soldier who loses his/her life is also made by the family as they come to terms with the event. And when I see a scene such as the one you described, I cannot help but feel deeply for the spouse that must explain to her kids why dad can’t give them the hugs and kisses they want/need.

    The problem with this sort of loss, the mom has to put forth that it was worth it, cast aside her anger and sadness to be there and be strong for their children. It makes my heart ache, makes me hold my own brood a little tighter.

    ah hubs, what a terribly sad moment. it’s amazing the strength kids and a loving wife can bring to a melancholy mood. hold them tight and love them often.

    Dammit just the thought made me cry.. I just can’t imagine. This morning I piled in bed with my 18 yr old. He fussed I said as his mother I had a need for some simple quiet time with him and proceeded to lay my head on his arm and just stare at this beautiful young man that I have raised. He didn’t like it but oh well.
