In bullet point format

  • This is going to be one *busy* week! 3 days in a row of getting up at 4:50am, then a 3 day house-hunting trip to MD, then up early on Sunday to participate in the Run to Home Base.
  • I’m going to San Fransisco at the end of the month. Anyone in the area want to say hi while I’m in town? I’ll be there for 5 days
  • We had a prospective tenant look at our house the other day. Of practical concern is the fact that she’s in her mid-30s and collecting full social security and not working. If she’s not physically able to work, how are we supposed to think about her ability to take care of our house while she’s living here? That’s a moot point however, it’s not that she has bad credit, she has NO credit AND multiple accounts have been sent to collection. While that track record of proven fiscal irresponsibility, she can keep looking for a place to live, because it’s not going to be in our house!
  • Veronica did a great job is a recent CrossFit competition and I couldn’t be prouder of her!
  • But my team beat her team anyway :-)
  • I haven’t been out on my road bike since March 22nd. I guess I’m really enjoying CrossFit, until I looked at my bike mileage log, I hadn’t realized it had been that long
  • Veronica and I cancelled one of our swingers website accounts. We’re not giving up on the lifestyle, but we’re definitely taking a break until after we’ve moved
  • Did you see this weeks Sinful Sunday post? Not 1, not 2, but 3 photos of Veronica!
  • I was texting with a past fuck-buddy the other day, I had forgotten what a boring conversationalist she is
  • In the last few weeks I unfollowed a bunch of people on Twitter. Seems I’m not done though, some people still have a knack for irritating the hell out of me
  • Many people, at least among the liberal-leaning crowd I know, are lauding President Obama for speaking out in favor of gay marriage. I still think he took the easy way out, civil rights should not be left up to the states, that should be a federal matter.  The notion of civil rights being subject to the will of the majority pisses me off.  Obama could learn from Truman, who forced the integration of the Armed Forces in 1948, against popular opinion.

  • I’ve been composing my thoughts about traditional gyms and health clubs and what a fuckin’ waste of time and money they are. I’ve got the soapbox, just need to get up on it. Soon….

Happy Monday!

Another brain-dump post….

I recently discovered 2 different emails that leave me feeling a little smarter, informed and amused each day. There’s NextDraft: The Day’s Most Fascinating News (click here for the subscription page) and Now I Know: Learn Something New Every Day (click here for the subscription page).

=====================

I had a BIG scare on Sunday, almost outed myself on a vanilla blog. The website of the CrossFit gym that Veronica and I go to is powered by WordPress, it is on this site that each day’s “Workout of the Day” or WOD is posted. Members are encouraged to post their performance data in the comments section of each post.

You can see where this is going, right?

I entered my workout data, hit the ‘submit’ button, and was horrified to see my hubman avatar next to the comment. SHIT! I proceeded to completely lose my cool and freak out, trying to figure out how to delete my comment (knowing full well that a reader can’t delete their own comment on a WordPress-powered blog), taking my Twitter account private, and trying to figure out how to take my blog private until I can get the comment deleted (now I know that self-hosted WordPress blogs require a plug-in to be private).

Veronica came to the rescue, she calmly called the gym owner, asked him to delete the comment from ‘hubman’ and in a matter of minutes it was gone. I later emailed him and explained in general terms who hubman is and asked that he keeps it between him and I.  He’s a good man, I have nothing to worry about now….

=====================

Speaking of fitness-related stuff, I’m currently reading Fast Foot Nation. It’s paragraphs like this that make it easier to stay on an only-natural-foods/hunter-gatherer/Paleo diet

=====================

Speaking of fitness- and diet-related stuff, I now weight less than 195 lbs for the first time in over 2 years. That’s 13 lbs lost in the last 8 weeks :-)

=====================

I’ve written before about my difficulty maintaining balance between my “real” and “online” lives, about what is really important to me and what is just time-wasting bullshit nonsense. A manifestation of that difficulty, and of how I’ve failed, was made clear to me earlier this week. Many of you know that I’ve accepted a job transfer offer and we’ll be moving this summer, from the Boston area to the Baltimore area. I was working on something, summarizing my contributions to my employer over the last 4+ years, when my sub-par productivity smacked me right in the face.

As a result, I’m seriously considering the end of “hubman” in all of his various forms, which is what this tweet yesterday was referring to

I don’t mean this to be one of those lame attempts for attention, for people to tell me how much I’d be missed or any of that bullshit. I need to think on this some more and make the best decision for me.

Will I be back tomorrow? Next week? In a month?

I have no fuckin’ clue, but something has to change….

Have a great day!

It’s amazing how many ways we have to stay in touch with our friends, isn’t it? Sometimes though, you have to say enough is enough.

There’s an instant messenger service called Kik, I was introduced to it by a Twitter friend who’d rather use that than exchange phone numbers. I can understand that, she’s concerned about hubby looking closely at the phone bill and asking questions.

Since I’m on Kik, it does it’s thing and searches for other people that I may know who also use that service.  Another friend found me on there and I got a notification that she added me as a friend/contact.

Here’s the thing though, she and I already have each others email addresses, follow each other on twitter, have exchanged phone numbers, AND we’re friends on Facebook.

Really, is adding another way to communicate necessary?

=============================

While I’m talking about social media, I have to rant a little about people who will say something about how they hate what they see, or are annoyed by people, on Twitter.

The last I knew, you control who you follow.

Don’t like someone? Unfollow them.
Don’t like hearing from someone? Block them.
Annoyed by a rant someone is on? Some Twitter clients allow you to mute or filter someone from your timeline.

It’s your social media experience, you’re in control.  The next time you’re tempted to complain, do something about it instead, spare me the whining please!

Now the topic of this cartoon, that’s an entirely different rant…

I came across these lists on this website and was wondering what my readers think.

I have a comments section, use it, tell me what you agree or disagree with! (Scroll down for my thoughts)

Top Male Physical Attributes Women Admire Most Percent
1 Sexy Buttocks 39 %
2 Slimness 15 %
3 Flat Stomach 13 %
4 Eyes 11 %
5 Long Legs 6 %
6 Tallness 5 %
6 Hair 5 %
8 Neck 3 %
9 Penis 2 %
10 Muscular chest and shoulders 1 %
11 Muscular arms 0 %
Top Attributes Men Think Women Admire Most
1 Muscular chest and shoulders 21 %
2 Muscular arms 18 %
3 Penis 15 %
4 Tallness 13 %
5 Flat Stomach 9 %
6 Slimness 7 %
7 Hair Texture 4 %
7 Buttocks 4 %
7 Eyes 4 %
10 Long Legs 3 %
11 Neck 2 %

What stands out for me? I’m not surprised at all by what women find attractive in men. I might have rated eyes or tallness higher, but that’s it.

The guys list? If I wasn’t so tired, I’d attempt to delve into societal influences on perceptions, considering that the top three categories are muscles, muscles, and cock.  Hey fellow guys, many women aren’t that shallow!

Apropos of Nothing

I don’t know if I’d say I’m still on a blogging hiatus, but I’ve given myself permission to forget about the blog for periods of time.  I’m feeling the urge to get back into regular blogging, but with my current work schedule, it’s not gonna happen. So, random thoughts to start your week off

- Speaking of my work schedule, this week and next will include back-to-back-to-back 11 hours days.

- CrossFit and the nutrition challenge sponsored by the gym we go to is going really well, I’m down about 8 lbs after 4 weeks, 8 weeks to go. For the first time in over 2 years I weigh less than 200 lbs, which is great. I’d like to get to the 185-190 range, then I might actually have something resembling a flat midsection again!

- Our sex life is experiencing an unexpected decline lately. I had a getaway with a friend in mid-March, she and I had as much sex that weekend as Veronica and I did during the entire rest of the month.  Not sure WTF is going on with that, except maybe busy schedules and stress messing us up

- We’re dog sitting for a month. My mom has been here since last Thursday, she’s leaving today for 2 weeks in NY with my sister and her family, then she’s heading on a 2 week vacation in Italy with her sister. Rather than board her Shih Tzu, we’re taking care of him until the first week of May.

- I had to laugh at the comment on this weeks Sinful Sunday post, apparently a reader has seen enough of my ass and misses seeing photos of Veronica! I guess it has been a while, maybe I’ll take some photos of her soon

- Four months from now we’ll be living in Maryland. We can’t afford to sell our home in MA (we’d lose $70K+ in equity) so we’ve refinanced our mortgage and will be renting it. We got a great rate on the re-fi and have found a property manager we’re happy with. On the downside, we’re not thrilled with the rental market where we’ll be going.  Hopefully with the time we have we’ll find something good for the family.

- Those long work hours? I’m not really complaining, for the 1st time in quite a while I’m actually collecting data in the lab.  Oh and I can guarantee that whatever you’re imaging for the type of lab I work in, you’re wrong.

This seems like an appropriate cartoon for a Monday morning

Happy Monday!!

For those of you on Gmail, have you ever noticed this little hyperlink down at the bottom right corner of the screen?

If you click on “Details”, the last 10 sessions on your account will be displayed. Now normally I wouldn’t look at it, but if I did it would display a listing of several IP addresses- my router at home, the one for my iPhone and maybe the IP address of my work computer.

I forget what it will say, but if someone else is logged into an account at the same time, there’s a message to that effect. I noticed that one day and figured it was Veronica, she does have my email password, so it wouldn’t be unusual.

But this WAS unusual

An entry from somewhere in Montana?  Time to run the IP address thru a search engine

How I have no idea if this is some weird quirk of how the internet works and just reflects a redirect through a server somewhere.  I do know that it was time to change my password, just in case something was up.

Was I right to suspect that my email account was hacked? I don’t know, but I do know that I haven’t noticed any unusual entries in the “Last Account Activity” list since then, and I’ve been keeping watch!

================================

If you’re interested, here’s a great post on choosing a good password.

Happy Monday!

You think you have it tough, that some challenge is too great, that you just can’t imagine accomplishing something that you dream of?

Watch this video of a man paralyzed from T12 (mid-back) down learn how to do a back flip on his ski chair.

Now, what was your excuse again?

(I could use reminded of this lesson from time to time as well)

Happy Monday!!!
