Friday afternoon found me looking for places to take photos, my first destination was decidedly un-inspiring and I heading home when I passed the parking area for this bike path. I’ve traveled this path many times before, but usually starting from the other end, which is closer to home. You might have seen photos from there before, most recently “Quack“.

Now that I think about it, this would make a great Scavenger Hunt location!

Not that I thought there was anything wrong with the original color version, but I decided to experiment with black and white for this photo, not sure if I like it. Click to see the original, if you’d like.

Yesterday morning I posted a few tweets with the hashtag #hubonwheels, which lead some to think I was referring to myself.  However I was referring to a cycling event held in Boston, the Hub on Wheels ride (10, 25, and 50 mile routes) and the Mayor’s Cup, a professional cycling race.  When I first heard about the event I thought about doing the 50 mile ride, but then had the idea of asking DB if he’d like to do the 10 mile ride with me.  He was up for it, so that’s what we did!

Keep in mind that DB only learned to ride a 2-wheeler in July of last year, so for him to do a 10 mile ride (which turned out to be 12, plus another 2 miles to and from the start), along with several thousand other riders on city streets was pretty impressive.  He got a little tired and whiny 7 miles in, but when we got to 8.5 miles I told him that we started strong, so we should try to finish strong too.  I was really proud of his response- he overlooked any discomfort and tiredness he was feeling and finished with a smile on his face!

Along Storrow Dr, I told him that I wanted to sprint ahead of him, pull my SLR out of my backpack and get some pics of him riding along.  This is one of my favorites, at least that I can show here!

Admit it, you saw the title and expected to see a naughty picture, didn’t you?  The naughtiness is (usually) reserved for Wednesday and Thursday, you should know that by now ;-)

Instead, you get my poor dirty bike.  Monday afternoon I realized that the rear tire was flat, after I removed the wheel I realized just how dirty the poor thing has gotten.  It’s a far cry from a few months ago when it was brand new, as seen here and here.  At least I got the flat repaired and got in a 15 mile ride after dinner.

Speaking of nakedness, if you really want to see me, it’s Tits for Troops day and there should be a picture of me included in the mix.

On a completely un-sexy note, there was a tragedy in the blogosphere last week- a woman lost 2 of her young children in a fire.  Veronica has a post today about it, including a link to Dana’s blog, where there is a button to make a donation to the family via PayPal if you’re so inclined.  I can’t imagine the pain this woman is feeling right now….

I took several pictures on Monday and couldn’t decide which to use, so I’m posting two completely different ones.

First, a picture of some flowers from my yard.  And if you want to see a case of helmet-hair after a 30 mile bike ride, just click-click on the flowers.
But I’m warning you, it’s not pretty!

I’m on the road today, heading to Baltimore for a meeting.  Veronica is coming down on Friday to join me for the last night of my trip.  Anyone in the area want to say hi?

It’s Tuesday, which means a new edition of Tits for Troops is posted, check it out!

I brought my bike with me to Long Island this past weekend, knowing that I would have some time Sunday morning to get in a ride.  I decided to drive to Newbridge Road Park then ride along a bike path to Jones Beach State Park from there, a nice 15 mile round trip.  Newbridge Road Park played a HUGE part in my youth- I was a BMX racer and that’s where the local track was located.  Every single Sunday morning, April thru October, from 1983-1988, that’s where you would find me, unless I was traveling to a regional- or national-level event, so I figured it would be nice to check out my old stomping grounds.

Here is a picture of the track from atop the starting hill, circa 1985 (yes, I’m one of the riders in the picture….)

And here is a picture from outside the fence, taken yesterday morning.

The starting hill that my dad was standing on when he took that photo of me would have been just on the other side of this fence. To imagine his perspective, climb over that fence, walk about 30 feet then turn right and you’d have the same view he had.

I knew that the track had shut down in the early-90s and I also had heard that Mr West, the track operator (he leased the property from the Town of Hempstead), leveled the track before he turned the property back over to the town.

Still, it was a really sad sight to see.

And it was time to do something about it!

Sunday morning I’m riding in the New York 5 Boro Bike Tour, which as the name implies will take me (and 30,000+ other riders!) along a 42 mile route through parts of Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.

I completed this ride last year and blogged about it (with pictures!) here.  Last year the weather was cold and rainy all day and frankly I was really miserable for damn near the entire ride.  But the forecast for Sunday in New York City is for high temps in the 80′s and while there is a chance of a thunderstorm, that’s not until later in the day, when I’ll already be done with the ride.  Cross your fingers and hope the weather forecast is accurate for me!

I’ll have my iPhone with me, so if you’re interested in seeing pictures of the ride throughout the day, you can visit my Twitter page, or come back here and look at my updates on the sidebar over there on the left side of the screen (and if I remember, I’ll enable geotagging for my tweets).  I’ll also have my SLR in my backpack and hope to get some good shots with that, so expect to see more pictures from the ride on Monday.

Yeah, I forgot that maxim when I installed and trimmed the kickstand for DBs bike :-/
Fortunately, I can put it on his old bike, which we’re saving for PP, since it’s useless on this bike…

While Thursday was gray, Friday most definitely was not! Remember my picture of kids playing ice hockey on a lake?  Here is that lake on my way home Friday afternoon. Look, it’s melting!! And there are blue skies!!! Woohoo!!!!!

Even better, it’s supposed to hit the low 50′s on Saturday, so I’ll finally get to ride my new bike!
