I decided that the windows on my truck needed cleaned after I returned home from my road trip.
Princess Persistent decided that she would be my helper. And she actually was helpful!
It was a nice day for a drive. It would have been better if it was more interesting than a single interstate for 250+ miles!
It was challenging capturing motion blur in broad daylight, especially without a neutral density filter. To get a relatively slow 1/10 sec shutter speed, I ended up setting the ISO at 100 and the aperture at f/22. As you can see my truck is in focus, since it’s moving with the camera, but the scenery is blurred. I’m pretty happy how it came out AND it gave me something to think about for a while!
Geographically speaking, that is. This sign in on the Mass Pike in the Berkshires.
There were other, less literal, high points of my little overnight excursion, check out my Sinful Sunday post for more about that
Can someone explain what the fuck is up with this “bridge”? This was back on I-90 in NY, along the Mohawk River. There were at least 2 others that I saw, looks like there are “arms” underneath that would pivot down towards the surface of the river.
Last Saturday morning I left for a work trip in Maryland and returned late last night, so my week in photos coincides perfectly with my week on the road! As always click on any photo to view full-sized in a new window
Day 79 Supermoon- I guess that’s what people were calling it, since it was closer to the Earth than it has been in years. I guess it did look bigger in the sky, but you can’t really tell from the photo.
Day 80 Statue- there was some Civil War battlefield near my hotel so I got out and wandered around shooting for a bit, trying to find something more interesting than “hey look, a statue in a field.” When I moved so that the statue was in silhouette I had my shot!
Day 81 Reece’s- Monday night I had the munchies, thank god for vending machines and Reece’s Peanut Butter cups!
Day 82 Drip- Can you see me in the reflection? It’s a little distorted but I swear, that’s me! Tuesday night I decided to check out the hot tub at the hotel, this is my swimsuit hanging in the shower afterward.
Day 83 Adolescent Sense of Humor- my inner Beavis and Butthead definitely came out when I saw this road sign! I mentioned some Home Stress issues the other day, since we’ll be moving to this area in 2012 I took the opportunity to explore some neighborhoods, which is when I saw this sign.
Day 84 One Big-Ass Gun!- More driving around and finding random sights, I came across a military museum of some sort that had a display of all sorts of tanks and cannons out front, this one was the biggest of them all. I’ll admit that the perspective accentuates the view, I put my camera on the ground set the timer for 10 seconds and ran out into the field of view. Yes that’s me in the picture.
Day 85 Almost Home- Heading north on I-91 in Connecticut, if you can read the GPS screen you can see I’m getting there. Contrast the expecting arrival time with that in this photo I posted to Twitter before I hit the road- not too bad considering I stopped 3 times and had to pass through New York City!
Yes, I took the photo while doing 76 mph on the interstate…
Get used to seeing that Twitter hashtag on Friday, the New York Sex Bloggers Calendar Party is tonight, and Veronica and I are going! Click here for full information about the calendar, what the proceeds are being used to support, and where the party is going to be held.
My dad and my sister are working together to watch the kids for us, so we can stay in the city until mid-day Sunday and make a proper getaway out of the weekend. Who knows what we’ll end up doing on Saturday!
I wonder which of these bras Veronica will be wearing until her dress at the party? Or will she be wearing one at all?

I could probably come up with more, but you get the idea, it was quite the summer! If you missed it, here is my post about the welcome home I got last night from the kids.
Now I’m home, and this is the end of posts about my road trip. Time to look forward and not back anymore….
As I pulled into our driveway around 7:45 Friday evening, I saw a light on in DB’s room and his head silhouetted in the window. Looking towards the living room, I saw PP perched on the ledge of the bay window, waiting for my arrival home. An hour earlier I had spoken with Veronica and told her when I expected to arrive home- who knows how long the kids spent looking out the windows and waiting for me!
Walking in the front door, seeing the looks on all of their faces and feeling the intensity of the hugs from all of them literally brought tears to my eyes. Obviously I missed my family, I didn’t quite realize how much until we were together again.
The kids even made welcome home signs!
Veronica and I of course had our own reunion once the kids were asleep. I had briefly thought about bringing the camera into the bedroom, but decided I’d rather concentrate on re-connecting, literally, with her rather than taking pictures for you. I hope you’ll forgive me, I’ll try to make it up to you this weekend

Disconnected
Between e-mail, text messaging, Twitter and Facebook, I normally have several ways to stay in touch with the virtual world.
But not this week!
If you follow me on Twitter you might have seen on Saturday that I was on a bit of a road trip. If you follow me on Twitter AND you possess exceptional powers of observation you may have noticed my absence for 11+ hours during the day on Sunday.
I’m certainly not what you would call a prolific Twitterer, at least I don’t think I am, but I do tend to at least keep up with my timeline and occasionally chime in with something, so I’m not completely invisible. I also do my best to respond to e-mails and if I’m really desperate I’ll log on to Facebook. Hey, that’s where family is; it’s boring by default! What I’m saying is, is that I can often be found online in some form or fashion during the day, as work allows and my extended absence on Sunday was very unusual for me.
The reason for my trip this week is for a training course, part of which is taking place somewhere with very strict security measures, so strict that visitors such as myself are not allowed to even bring camera phones into the building. I can’t try to cheat and bring my phone with me anyway, we all have to pass through a security checkpoint, including metal detectors, to enter the building.
For a few hours in the morning I felt like I was going through technology withdrawal, but as the day went on it got better and after a while I didn’t really miss it all that much. Sure, it would have been nice to randomly text Veronica to tell her I love her and was thinking about her, but after 20+ yrs, she knows that anyway
I realized a couple of things Sunday. For one, I spend too much time online, even if I’m not interacting with others. I practically have Twitter ADD, checking it much more often than I “need” to. It’s a good thing all of these online connections and friends weren’t around when I was in grad school, I never would have graduated!
While this cartoon is true to some extent, I need to start pulling back some…
