We’ve had so little snow this winter (not that I’m complaining!), I hardly knew what to think when it started snowing on Wednesday afternoon. The weather-guessers are confused on this one, depending on the website we’re getting 3-5″ or up to 10″.  We’ll just have to wait and see what the morning brings!

The word is snow, of course!

As a general rule, I don’t complain about snow, I do live in New England after all, it kinda comes with the territory. But when the first snow, even if it won’t last, comes before the leaves are off the trees, well, that’s just fucked up.

Earlier in the evening I enticed Veronica to flash me her tits for a photo with the intention of calling it “Day 301 – Gratuitous Tit Pic”. Once it started snowing, I knew I had to get a photo of that.

But I decided to share the photo of Veronica anyway, because that’s the kind of guy I am :-)

We really did have a pretty bad winter!

Now that winter really seems to be over I think I can talk about this without risk of jinxing us and causing more snow. If you enter “snow” in the search bar over there on the right you’ll see that I posted a number of pictures this past winter. Here’s a chart from the local paper (best use: for the dog to shit on) showing data from the department of public works- we had almost twice the normal amount of snow this year!

=======================================================

I’ve really been neglecting my blog this week. I have another weeks worth of Project365 photos to post, Veronica and I still have to follow up with part 2 of A Promising Start, I’ve got some posts I can write about Katie, there’s a Swing Shift post or two percolating in my head, and I’ve got some big changes going on at work that I want to try to talk about (but without giving away who I work for, which is the challenge).

I leave for another work trip on Monday, I’ll be gone all week and may not be able to bring my Mac, just my work laptop, which I can’t blog from. I hope to get some posts written and scheduled this weekend, wish me luck!

Anyone in the Washington DC area and Baltimore areas? I’ll be there all week :-)

Last week DB was the theme, appearing in 4 of the photos, this week’s theme could be “toys”

Day 51- Sticks Galore Saturday we had some vicious winds, gusts upward of 45 mph. While we were fortunate that no trees or limbs came down, quite a few smaller branches did, which stood out nicely against the backdrop of the snow on the ground

Day 52- Flying Marble Being the evil parents we are, Sunday we made DB clean his room and lo and behold he came across a toy under his bed, which he and PP happily played with for a while. With a little building help from dad…

Day 53- More Marble Fun Another day, another rediscovered toy. Yesterday’s toy was a little too complex for PP so I pulled out this one, a simpler gravity-feed marble tower toy thingy.

Day 54- Grown up toys Not all of the toys in the house are for the kids :-)

Day 55- HNT Wednesday I took Veronica’s HNT picture, click here to see it

Day 56- Swing With more and more days of warmer temperatures the snow is slowly receding. Not too long ago it was deep enough that only the chains were visible.

Day 57- Rain Almost an inch and a half of it! Good thing it wasn’t 10 degrees colder, all of this would have been snow

It warmed up to about 40 degrees F on Sunday, so I got to work clearing snow off the roof.
Let me tell you, shoveling ~18″ of snow off the roof is quite the workout, especially when you’re also trying not to fall!
[Yes, I'm tired of snow and ice pictures too, what can I say, that's what's dominating my world lately!]

Somewhere under there is the rest of this poor bush.  Most of the bushes in my yard are completely covered, all except for the tallest of them. I couldn’t figure out what caused it, but I like the little rainbow just in front of the bush

So much for 12-16″ of snow, we woke up to about 4″ of snow then it warmed and was sleet and freezing rain for the rest of the day.
Honestly, I would have preferred the snow, that’s a pain to clean up, but all the ice on trees, the street and sidewalks is dangerous.

Enough with the pictures of snow piled up, or falling down, or icicles, let’s think warm thoughts!  I spent Sunday afternoon downstairs and built a fire for a little extra warmth, it was the perfect follow-up to spending time earlier in the day clearing snow off the roof.

This photo was taken while I was standing on my front doorstep and looking pretty much straight up.
It’s difficult to tell from this perspective, but the longest of the icicles is about 2 ft long.
Once (if) the weather warms up, it could be dangerous!

If you follow me on Twitter and saw my tweets Tuesday morning, you know what I’m talking about. Door to door my commute is 18 miles and normally takes about 40-50 minutes.  I left the house at 7:30, which is later than usual, and coupled with the light snow I was expecting it to take longer than usual.  But I had no idea how bad it would be.

After 30 minutes, I had only gone about 6 miles, and it was getting worse.  After 1 hr and 40 minutes, I was just reaching the halfway point and was now late for the 9:00am conference call I was scheduled to be on.  Finally, after 2 hrs and 15 min I made it to work, that’s an average of 7.5 mph.

For the most part I love living in the Boston area, but after days like yesterday, which happen several times a year, I really can’t wait for that company transfer that’s coming in 2012 so I can get the fuck out of here!

Here’s what it looked like for most of the drive.  The snow isn’t even that bad!!!!!
